NIBIO (former Bioforsk) is a national R&D institute under the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The main areas of competence are linked to food quality and safety, environmental protection and natural resources management. International collaboration is given high priority. NIBIO has a staff of about 720, with an annual turnover of ca. 70 M€. The Climate and Environment Division, with a scientific staff of approx. 80 persons, are specialized in research on soil, water and bioresoucres, including fate and impact of environmental pollutants, ecotoxicology, hazard assessment and soil remediation. NIBIO has studied the environmental impact of nanomaterials since 2007, focusing on iron nanoparticles since 2010.
